I am a play therapist in Marietta and Roswell, Georgia for children ages 2-12 and their caregivers. This can look like:
Play Therapy
Sessions with a child and therapist, using play to express and explore emotions, make sense of their world, and tell their story. For older children, more elements of talk therapy can be included. For all children, I use expressive/creative elements such as art and movement.
Child/parent therapy
Child and parent together in sessions with the therapist. The therapist guides activities to build communication, connection, or other skills, and provides reflective feedback on interactions.
Caregiver Coaching
Sessions with just the caregiver(s) and therapist, often online but can also be in person. Discussing concerns that come up at home, exploring alternate options for parent’s ways of working with and responding to the child.
School Coordination
Children spend much of their time at school, and teachers are also caregivers. I am happy to speak to teachers to help with ideas for working with big feelings or behaviors in the classroom.
School Observation
If difficulties are arising at school, it may be helpful for me to observe the child in their classroom setting. This can help give clues to what may be triggering behaviors and what might be adapted to help.
Combined Approaches
Often, a mental health care plan will include a mix of some of the listed approaches, and it can change over time depending on your needs. Even if I’m only doing individual play therapy, I do brief check-in calls with parents about what we’re working on in therapy and what’s happening at home.
I see clients in-person in south Marietta near Smyrna, and in Roswell near Alpharetta. I also do telehealth when appropriate, often for older children, people living at a distance, or parent sessions.
